The fundraising toddlers take a break

WELLY-WALKING toddlers from St George’s Parish Church’s “Play and Pray” group in Littleport raised money on Tuesday by toddling for Africa.

Nine pre-schoolers aged two years old pulled up their wellies and enjoyed a day of glorious sunshine as they explored the gardens of the Grange Residential Home with their parents and group helpers.

The sponsored toddle was in aid of Farm Africa’s “Give Hunger the Boot” campaign to raise money for starving children.

Curate Ann Broxham, who organised the event, said: “It was just lovely. We didn’t know what the weather would be like but it was very sunny.

“They really enjoyed themselves rolling around on the grass and jumping up and down in the gardens and two of them thought it would be a nice idea to have a picnic.”

Ann said the toddlers, who had been shown pictures of people in Africa, were beginning to appreciate that other people have so little.

She said: “In one picture a man had bought a camel for his kids so they could have milk and one of the children said he was hungry and asked his mum if she could buy him a camel.”

Further funds for Farm Africa are being raised by church members during September and October.
