On Saturday September 15, the North Level District Internal Drainage Board threw open the doors of the historic building.

The public was invited to view the pumps and information displays explaining the history of the station, the drainage of the Tydd catchment and the work of the drainage board.

Free refreshments were provided, with donations invited for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Paul Sharman, chief executive of the drainage board, was on hand to answer questions and to highlight the capability of the pumps.

There were two pumping demonstrations, supported by Jon Stubley, operations engineer, and Dave Pridmore, pumping station superintendent.

Dave Gibbs, clerk to Tydd St Giles Parish Council, led two guided walks around the area discussing the 400 year history of the hamlet of Foul Anchor, as well as the recent project to create a permissive walkway along the bank of the North Level Main Drain.

Organisers said that £57 was raised for charity - with attendance doubled from previous years.
