Turves man asks for permission to upgrade speedway track in his garden so he can set up academy

A TURVES man wants to set up his own electric speedway academy in his garden,

John Green has already laid a speedway track and safety fence next to his house and has asked Fenland District Council for permission to upgrade his facilities so he can make the circuit available to young riders seven days a week.

Mr Green’s project will involve the use of electric speedway bikes, which are silent and environmentally friendly.

He said: “The project was started by myself 15 years ago when I decided I wanted to build a speedway track on my land with the intention of giving youngsters a chance to learn the noble art of speedway.

“My thoughts regarding the use of the track have intensified over recent years due to the lack of British talent coming through the ranks and becoming established speedway drivers.”

Mr Green has previously held discussions with council officers about opening up his track for members of the public to try out conventional speedway bikes and was told it would be acceptable for 14 days a year.

But since the meeting he has developed a pollution and noise free machine, which he says should permit him to make the track available all year round.

He will hire experienced coaches to supervise the sessions and pass on their knowledge.
