Cambridgeshire and Peterborough’s finest sportsmen and unsung community heroes will be recognised at an upcoming awards ceremony.
The eighth annual Living Sport Awards takes place on November 14 at Burgess Hall, St Ives, but nominations close on October 4 at 5pm.
Eleven categories will be contested and previous winners include Doddington’s Paralympic Gold medallist Jonnie Peacock and Littleport’s Courtney Pettifor, who picked up the Young Community Volunteer of Year award last year.
Mr Peacock, last year’s Sports Performer with a Disability of the Year, said: “I’m proud to have won a Living Sport Cambridgeshire Award in the past and I like the way the event brings people from all walks of sporting life together to celebrate everything we love about sport.”
There are categories for Sports Performer of the Year, Sports Performer With a Disability of the Year, Coach of the Year, Amateur Community Club of the Year, Team of the Year, School of the Year and Workplace of the Year.
People who are under 18 on November 14 2013 are eligible for Young Sports Performer of the Year and Young Community Volunteer.
The Matthew Warn Power of Sport award recognises a project which has made an impact involving the community and the Services to Sport award will go to someone who has dedicated their life to sport at any level.
Simon Fairhall, chief executive of Living Sport, said: “Our annual awards ceremony provides an excellent opportunity to honour the significant contributions to sport development made by so many people across the county on a voluntary basis, without whom community sport would not happen.
“They recognise and celebrate the success and achievements of our talented sportsmen and women and teams.
“We are urging everyone to nominate their local sporting heroes to receive an award at this year’s ceremony.”
