A lorry driver was taken to hospital this morning (September 27) after a single-vehicle crash on a busy Fenland bypass.

Emergency services were called to the A47 Thorney bypass at the New Cut roundabout at around 2.17am.

Fenland Police officers were called to the scene along with firefighters and paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service Trust.

On Twitter, Fenland Police said: “Officers along with @cambsfrs @EastEnglandAmb attended single vehicle #RTC on #A47 Thorney bypass this morning, minor injury to driver.”

A police spokesman said: “The driver of a HGV was taken to Peterborough City Hospital with minor injuries. The vehicle was recovered.”

The crash comes just three days after a biker was killed following a road crash on the A47 at Wisbech.

At approximately 11.19am on Saturday (September 23), a white Ford Transit panel van and a white Yamaha motorbike were heading towards Wisbech when, close to a staggered crossroads near Broadend Road East, the motorbike was in collision with a grey BMW 520 travelling in the opposite direction.
