SOME Wisbech residents may not be able to contact their families this Christmas after the Rosmini Centre’s IT suite was broken into at the weekend.

One of the Polish teachers arrived at the centre on Saturday morning to discover thieves had stolen five Apple Macs and caused £100 worth of damage.

The centre is a popular destination for visitors to Skype their families but the break-in has left the building without internet access.

The centre also provides one-on-one support to people with learning disabilities but this service has been put on hold since the incident.

Anita Grodkiewicz, the Centre’s development manager, said: “Everybody is angry and upset because it’s a facility that the whole community uses and for some people it is the difference between being able to talk to their families back home or not.

“We are coming up to Christmas so it’s the worst time of year it could happen.

“Sadly the people who did this are the kind who just think about themselves but I guess that’s just the way of life.”

The centre has been open for four years and welcomes 1,000 visitors each week.

This is the first time it has been targeted and no arrests have been made,

Police believe the theft took place between 8pm on Friday and 8.40am the following day and are appealing for witnesses.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
