St John Ambulance units across Cambridgeshire are appealing for new volunteers for roles including youth officers and events lead.

No first aid experience is required as all training will be given by existing volunteers and trainers.

District youth officers must have a youth work qualification and experience of supporting young people between the ages of five and 18.

Lee Taylor, district manager, said: ‘I’m really keen to hear from enthusiastic adults around the county who have some time to spare each month to help manage and coordinate these various volunteer functions.

“Working with St John Ambulance is incredibly fulfilling and, as part of the role, we’ll teach all successful applicants first aid, an incredibly useful set of skills to possess as you never know when you might need to use them – in the home, at work, in the street or at public events.’

The district new volunteer lead will be responsible for attracting and recruiting new volunteers around Cambridgeshire and arranging a suitable induction and training programme.

Applicants for this role must have experience of working with and supporting volunteers.

The district HR lead and officers will use their experience or education to support and advise managers on processes relating to volunteer recruitment, development and any conduct issues, as well as supporting change initiatives.

HR experience is essential. A CIPD qualification is desirable but not essential as in-role training will be provided.

The district events lead will organise first aid cover and life saving equipment at events around the county, working alongside volunteer units and the local and regional events teams.

Applicants must have experience in arranging or providing services at public events.

All new volunteers will be taught a wide range of skills so they can potentially be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.

Those with no prior first aid experience can expect to attain a reasonable level of proficiency after around three months.

All volunteers must be over 18 and

required to pass an enhanced disclosure and barring service check.
