Police stall waiting to trace next of kin to identify woman pedestrian killed on the A47 at Wisbech

10:59 26 August 2014

A man walking with the female pedestrian killed on the A47 at Wisbech at the weekend has been helping police work out what caused the fatal collision.

The woman, in her 40s, died when she was in a collision with a black Volkswagen Touran on the A47 between the Begdale roundabout and the Elme Hall Hotel.

The collision happened on the east bound carriageway at around 9pm and the road remained closed for five hours for forensic for accident investigators to complete their inquiries. The A1101 at Elm and the B198 at Wisbech where the incident took place is near to the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk border and fire fighters from both counties were called to the scene.

Last night a police spokesman would only confirm that woman pedestrian, believed to be from Eastern Europe, was with a male when the collision happened.

A spokesman for the East of England ambulance service said: “We were called to the incident at 9.08pm. We sent several resources to the scene including two ambulances. “However one woman was confirmed dead at the scene.”

The police spokesman said no further details could be released until the next of kin in her home country had been found and notified.

However police are anxious to hear from anyone who might have seen the collision or has information which might help. Anyone with any information should call the Roads Policing Unit on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
