MP Steve Barclay dropped in for a cuppa and a chat with Fenland fundraiser Barbara Tinsley at her annual Cake Break event in aid of MS Action where she raised more than £1000.

Mrs Tinsley has supported the charity for the past nine years after her husband John died as a result of the disease at the age of 63 in 2004.

She opens her home in Tydd St Giles to the community for a morning of coffee, tea, cakes and games to raise cash for the charity, which she said provided her with essential support during John’s illness.

She said: “I always ask them to split the money I raise between research and the helpline. The helpline provides a fantastic service, helping people when they need it most. I knew I could turn to them if I needed information or just some support.”

Mr Barclay popped in and enjoyed a cup of tea, slice of cake and a chat

He said: “MS is a horrible disease. We don’t know what causes it and there is no cure so research is vital. Speaking to Barbara I can see how important the helpline is to sufferers and their families, so fundraising events like her Cake Break are essential, which is why I was more than happy to accept her invitation to attend.

“On another note events like this bring the community together, which is always great,” he added.
