MP Steve Barclay has written to Peterborough City Council bosses asking for a feasibility study into raising the North Bank Road between Whittlesey and Peterborough.

The road is regularly used by commuters but suffers from frequent closure due to flooding.

The road was shut for 65 days between November 2012 and February 2013 and a further 23 days this winter including over the busy New Year period.

Mr Barclay said: ‘It is not necessary to raise the entirety of this road but merely from the last house in the East Delph up to the approach of the bridge over the River Nene.

“It is a source of huge frustration for Whittlesey residents and others who suffer from these frequent closures and it is now important we measure the exact costs of raising the road to so we can compare it to the obvious benefits it will bring.

“After years of frustration at Welney, we now have progress with a feasibility study commissioned to be carried out this year. It is the right time for Peterborough City Council to follow suit.”
