A MOTORIST who became stranded after ignoring the flood warning signs at Sutton Gault had to be rescued from her car by firefighters.
Crews travelled out from Ely and Huntingdon shortly after 11am on Wednesday to the B1381 following reports that a woman and her dog were stuck in flood water.
Firefighters rescued the duo from the fast flowing water using a rescue sled, before returning to their station by 1pm.
Watch Commander Jon Wade from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Driving through floodwater can be extremely dangerous as it is impossible to see how deep the water is or whether there are hazards under the water, which could damage your car and leave you stranded.
“The road is now closed due to the flood conditions. I would like to remind all motorists that ignoring road closures can be very dangerous so please ensure that you plan your journey to avoid the area.”
