The mother of a 22-year-old jet skier who died after a collision on a water sports lake in Little Paxton has paid tribute to her “vibrant” daughter and described the pain since her death in 2015 as “excruciating”.

Beki’s parents, Belinda and Richard Hellens, and her fiancé Paul Turner, remained composed throughout the eight-day hearing, but admitted to being frustrated at having to wait two years for the inquest to be heard.

During the hearing they were forced to relive the frantic attempts to save Beki’s life at the jet ski lake, in Little Paxton, and listen to the gruesome medical and crash investigation evidence which attempted to piece together what happened that day.

Mrs Hellens said in a statement: “For almost two years we have endured excruciating uncertainty. The last few days have put a grieving family through more than we thought we could bare. We have experienced humanity at its worst, from those we should have been able to trust.

“But we have also witnessed humanity at its very best, and wholeheartedly thank the bystanders, volunteers and emergency services for their dedication and compassion on that devastating day.

“Beki had a ready smile and an enthusiasm for life that few could hope to keep up with. She followed her many and varied dreams with determination and passion. A bright girl in every way. Tragically her calendar full of aspirations will now never be realised. A vibrant and promising life, cut short, just as it was beginning. It leaves family and friends trying to find the courage and strength to live with the darkness that is left, now her bright light has been taken from our lives and our hearts.”
