THE creation of a Foodbank in Wisbech to help the town’s struggling families and homeless will be discussed at an open meeting tonight.
Members of Wisbech Churches Together are keen to introduce a similar scheme to those that currently run in King’s Lynn, Newmarket and other nearby towns.
They are looking to build on the work already being done in Wisbech by the Salvation Army, the Baptist Church, the Rosmini Centre and the Ferry Project.
A spokesman for Wisbech Churches Together said: “At the meeting we will discuss the need for a Foodbank and learn about the operation of the King’s Lynn Foodbank which could be a model for our scheme.
“We will also be opening the project up to a much wider section of the community than that represented by Churches Together and will be recruiting volunteers and committee members and seeking suggestions of suitable premises for a warehouse and also a distribution centre.
“We also need offers of gifts of food. If you can help in any way of if you are simply interested in the project please join us.”
The meeting will take place at the Salvation Army Headquarters in John Thompson Road (PE13 2NF) at 7pm.
