March cadet leaders have their navigation skills tested Lake District adventure

Three staff members from the 1220 (March) Squadron Air Cadets honed their navigation skills at a national training centre in the Lake District.

The team spent a weekend at the National Air Cadet Adventure Training Centre in Windermere.

Under the guidance of an experienced mountain leader, Tim Kightly, Megan Saunders and Kirsty Burnham navigated their way through the Langdale Valley.

While en-route, the team tested out satellite phones, which will be used later this year when other members of the squadron participate in an overseas expedition to the Ascension Islands.

On the second day the team walked a short route from the Kirkston Pass up to Red Screes.

Sergeant Megan Saunders said, “It was really useful to practice techniques and get further experience to help me work towards gaining a qualification that will help me to lead cadets in the future. We were also really lucky to get such a fantastic view.”

An open evening for the 1220 squadron takes place on February 5 at 7.30 at the squadron building.
