North Cambs Hospital entrance - the New Horsefair Clinic lift was broken for a month

An out of order lift at a Wisbech health clinic caused issues for patients with mobility problems for four weeks and made staff stressed according to a local councillor.

The lift at the New Horsefair Clinic was fixed this week after a month out of order but before it was mended Dean Reeves, Labour party candidate for the Waterless by election, took to social media to call for access issues to be sorted at the New Horsefair Clinic.

“It provides services to many clients with mobility issues. Staff stressed,” he said on Twitter and urged for Cambs Comunity Services NHS Trust to urgently address the issues.

Reception is on the first floor, he added and at present it was not even manned due to staff shortages.

“Not good enough,” he said.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust said: “We sincerely apologise to anyone inconvenienced by the closure of the lift at the New Horsefair Clinic.

“The lift has been out of use since 20 July whilst a replacement part for the emergency call phone within the lift was ordered, delivered and fitted.

“The emergency phone was repaired on August 17 and the lift is now safe to use and is fully operational.

“Services continued to operate throughout and a room on the ground floor was available for clinicians to meet disabled service users where required.

“We would like to thank local people for their patience during this time.”
