WISBECH Town Football Club has splashed the cash on a new arrival - but they are hoping to leave it sitting in the dugout.

The injury-hit Fenmen have used some of the money raised at this year’s Goalbound fun day to buy a new fold-up stretcher.

Richard Meek, chairman of the supporters’ club, said: “Thanks to a lot of hard work by all concerned, the Wisbech Town Supporters’ Club managed to make almost £400 profit from the Goalbound day at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium.

“The committee wanted to use that money wisely and decided to pay half the cost towards a high-quality roving microphone plus purchase a much-needed new emergency stretcher.

“Mercifully the stretcher is not used often but the ancient example used by the club appeared to have been borrowed from the set of Dad’s Army and is being offered to the Bygones Collection at Holkham Hall.”

Wisbech, who sit top of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, were facing an injury crisis last month when three of their keepers picked up knocks.
