Nearly 300 cadets, accompanied by more than 100 adult officers and instructors, took part in shooting, a field exercise and adventure training during Cambridgeshire Army Cadets’ annual camp at Nesscliff Training Camp near Shrewsbury.

They tried their hand at kayaking, archery, caving, climbing and high wire tasks at Red Ridge Centre.

The field exercise saw them spending up to two nights living in a basha (improvised shelter) and cooking army 24 hour ration packs.

During the camp, the cadets were joined by Major Padre Rye Parkinson, who is also associate parish priest at Wisbech St Mary Church.

Padre Ryk said: “Being the senior Padre gives me the chance to work with the cadets and adult leaders in providing support, guidance and above all just a listening ear.

“Being seen in the field and available for a friendly chat is very important. It’s great to work with the youngsters at camp and see their progression through later life.”
