Eight baking enthusiasts put the finishing touches to their Christmas cakes yesterday.
The Neale-Wade Academy students have been taking part in an after-school ‘Let Get’s Cooking Club’ for the past month.
The club, now in its fifth year, is run by catering teachers Pat Knott and Jane Garner.
Mrs Knott said: “The club was inspired by Jamie Oliver’s Pass It On campaign a few years ago, where people learn recipes and then teach them to their families.
“We were not going to run it this year but we were overwhelmed by requests from students asking us it put it on again, which was nice.
“On the first week they baked the cakes, on the second week they put marzipan on them, on week three they added the icing and this week they are decorating them.
“We decided to do it step by step so that we did not rush them.”
Katie Greenall, 12, said: “If you want to make a masterpiece, you don’t rush it.”
The girls, all aged 12 or 13, are excited about taking their creations home to their families for them to enjoy over the festive period.
Year 8 student Taylor Munns said: “I’m making mine as festive as possible so it will be perfect for Christmas Day and hopefully everyone will enjoy it.”
