The money was given by a Fen-based charity that recycles old tins of paint and was attended by MEP Richard Hewitt who supported them in their green recycling mission.

Cambridgeshire Community Reuse and Recycling Network, CCORRN, a community organisation based in March, runs Cambridge Community RePaint Scheme.

The scheme is overseen by a small team of staff and volunteers who collect, sort, test and redistribute low cost paint under contract to AmeyCespa on behalf of Cambridgeshire County Council.

They offer a monthly draw for free paint to community groups who want to improve their local environment and facilities.

Head of Operations at CCORRN, Marcus Pheasant, said: “We are delighted to award FRMS the March Get Painted with paint to help freshen up the station. “They like us to rely on volunteers to help them do the best job they can.”

The RePaint group is part of a network of more than 60 similar organisations across the UK.

Cambridgeshire Community RePaint was founded in 2003 as a social enterprise to be an impartial and independent organisation to support community reuse and recycling.

Any income is used to cover the costs of providing the service and any surplus is reinvested in the core social and environmental objects of the organisation.
