09:36 27 May 2014

Four people were taken to hospital after a house fire in Wisbech on Friday.

At 10.20am, two crews from Wisbech and one crew from March were called to a fire on Edinburgh Drive.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the kitchen of a house, which was smoke logged.

They extinguished the fire using hose reels and a jet and cleared the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan.

The house was evacuated before the crews arrived. Two adults and two children were treated for smoke inhalation and taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The crews returned to their stations by 2pm.

A fire investigation is being carried out to determine the cause.

An East of England Ambulance spokesman said: “We were called just after 10.30am to treat four casualties for smoke inhalation.

“Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene administering oxygen to two adults and two children – all were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further assessment although their conditions weren’t thought to be life threatening.”

  • Nice library photo of a fire engine. Wrong caption though.
