At 10.19pm last night one crew was called to a collision in Barton Road, Wisbech, where specialist equipment was needed to free a casualty.

Police and other emergency services were on the scene, too, and the road was closed whilst the debris was cleared.

No details of the casualty have been released.

A Cambs fire spokesman said their crew returned to base at 11.18pm.

The strike, by members of the Fire Brigades Union over a pension dispute, means Cambridgeshire is being manned by on-call fire fighters and a mixture of back office and other re-trained personnel.

The spokesman said another crew had earlier attended a car fire at 6pm in Marina drive, March.

“It was extinguished by 6.18pm and the cause was accidental, electrical,” said the spokesman.

Between 6pm last night and 8.30am today Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service had attended nine false alarms as well as the two Fenland incidents.

The strike continues until Tuesday, November 4.

Cambs fire will issue a further update on incidents this evening.
