Fire crews rescued this horse from the water at Redmoor Lane, Wisbech


Two horses have been rescued from water on the same day and within a few miles of each other.

One crew from Wisbech, one crew and a rescue vehicle from Dogsthorpe were called to a horse stuck in ditch off Redmoor Lane, Wisbech.

A large horse was stuck up to its neck in water in a water-filled ditch.

A vet was called to sedate the animal while firefighters began cutting back roadside vegetation to gain better access for the rescue. The RSPCA was also in attendance.

Specialist animal rescue equipment was used to safely rescue the horse from the ditch.

Crews returned to their stations by 7pm last Thursday.

One crew from March and a crew and rescue vehicle from Huntingdon were called to reports of an animal stuck in water off the A141 Rings End, near the Guyhirn roundabout.

A horse was in a river and could not get out. A vet was called to assess the welfare of the animal and firefighters using in-water equipment and a boat to gain access. Using specialist animal rescue equipment they rescued the horse by 8.21pm.

Crews returned to their stations by 10pm.
