Fire at Long Sutton barn owned by the Queen still under investigation

A fire which destroyed a large barn owned by the Queen is still being investigated.

Flames tore through the iron-clad building on the Norfolk/Lincolnshire border on July 31.

Six appliances were sent to the site at King John Bank, near Sutton Bridge. Crews were at the site for more than 12 hours.

The fire was so fierce it melted the building’s corrugated iron cladding and roof.

The Crown Estate, which manages the monarch’s property portfolio, later confirmed it owned the structure, which stands on thousands of hectares of reclaimed land it also owns next to The Wash.

In response to a freedom of information request about the fire, the estate said: “We have been advised that the police are investigating the fire, but we do not hold any information or correspondence which identifies or reports on the cause of the fire.”
