The National Citizen Service (NCS), which will run through the summer holidays and autumn half term, is a nationwide programme for 16-17-year-olds.

It aims to challenge teenagers with courses, activities and projects which benefit their community.

Cambridgeshire charity Young Lives is currently recruiting NCS participants for a two-week long activity and skills challenge, followed by a fortnight’s volunteer programme.

Gareth Waldock, from Young Lives, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this inspiring project. We need all of Fenland’s teenagers who are up for a fun challenge to say yes!

“You can sign up via our website, by giving us a call or by texting NCS and your name and postcode to 60777.”

The NCS scheme will include activities such as cave bouldering, rafting and abseiling, as well as developing and delivering social action projects.

It has won support from MPS, businesses and celebrities - including television presenter and NCS ambassador Bear Grylls.

He said: “This is one of the most exciting projects in the UK at the moment: empowering our youth with much needed life skills through adventure.”
