A one-on-one counselling service in Fenland has had to be suspended because of a lack of volunteers.

Cruse Bereavement Care have decided to suspend its one-to-one service rather than keep people hanging on a waiting list for a service they can not provide.

They need to recruit at least three volunteers to join the two operating in the district to help them reinstate the one-to-one service.

Bereaved Fenland residents can receive counselling over the phone, but it is not the same as having one-to-one sessions.

MP Steve Barclay, as part of his Treat Me Local campaign to improve health provision, has called for better bereavement services.

He said: “I was disturbed to hear local people are missing out on this vital service at a time when they really need help.

“Losing a loved one is always a difficult time and some people struggle to cope with their loss. Counselling can help them, which is why I have made improved provision a priority.”
