Events planned throughout Cambridgeshire to commemorate 70 years since end of Second World War

Events will take place across Cambridgeshire this summer to commemorate the 70th anniversary of end of the Second World War.

The Home Front: Cambridgeshire Commemorates the End of World War II, will be an opportunity for residents to commemorate the wartime effort and learn about the forties’ era.

The project is being coordinated by Cambridgeshire County Council alongside Cambridge City Council, East Cambridgeshire, Fenland, Huntingdonshire and South Cambridgeshire district council’s.

Councillor John Clark, leader of Fenland District Council, said: “Last year we marked the centenary of a tragic event – the start of the First World War.

“This year gives us the chance to commemorate a much happier anniversary – the end of the Second World War in Europe.

“I’m sure people throughout Fenland will want to join in the celebrations that will be taking place all over the county.”

The visit by Prince Charles to Wisbech has prompted a partial U-turn by Fenland District Council who will now provide winter bedding plants outside of St Peter’s church.
