Emneth man, 86, thinks his bypass plans will solve Wisbech’s traffic problems

An 86-year-old man says he has come up with a solution for solving Wisbech and the surrounding areas’ traffic problems.
Daniel Noone, of Church Road, Emneth, proposes creating a new bypass from the A1101 east of Elm around the east and north of Wisbech to the A1101 between Leverington and Newton.
His bypass would require a bridge to be built over the River Nene near Leverington.
Mr Noone says his route would benefit Broad End Road junction, where there have been a number of fatal crashes.
He has written to several MPs about his plans but is frustrated by the lack of response.
He said: “Wisbech is practically bunged up and there is lots of pollution. It is past a joke.
“I think my idea is the cheapest option to solve it because you would only have to build one bridge.
“It is definitely an idea worth considering. I have lived here for 60 years.
“I have written to MP Liz Truss and MP Steve Barclay but I think my idea has been filed under forget.”
Mr Noone has had a response from MP Norman Baker, who felt it was a matter for Cambridgeshire and Norfolk County Councils to discuss.
Mr Baker said: “A proposal such as this would likely impact on the local roads both within Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.
“It would therefore be a matter for both County Councils as the local highway authorities who have responsibility for making decisions regarding the management of local traffic and local roads.”
