ELECTION SPECIAL: Conservative candidates Jan French and Steve Count enjoy double success in March North & Waldersey division

County council leader Steve Count pulled off a decisive victory – topping the poll by 169 votes from his running mate Jan French.

March North & Waldersey Division: Katharine Bultitude (Labour), Andrew Crawford (Green), Steve Count (Conservative), Stephen Court (Lib Dem), Jan French (Conservative), Martin Field (Labour), Caroline Smith (UKIP), Scott Lansdell-Hill (Lib Dem), Robin Talbot (UKIP) and Ruth Johnson (Green).March North & Waldersey Division: Katharine Bultitude (Labour), Andrew Crawford (Green), Steve Count (Conservative), Stephen Court (Lib Dem), Jan French (Conservative), Martin Field (Labour), Caroline Smith (UKIP), Scott Lansdell-Hill (Lib Dem), Robin Talbot (UKIP) and Ruth Johnson (Green).

For Cllr French, a former town mayor and a Fenland district councillor, it will be her first time on the county council.

Cllr Count took 2,263 votes and Cllr French 2,094. Labour’s Katharine Bultitude and Martin Field polled 856 and 850 votes respectively.

Cllr French, who had delivered 30,000 leaflets since January, said: “We will do our absolute best to represent the people from across the whole county.”

Cllr Count said: “Speaking as acting leader of Cambs County Council, we put a lot of hard work into the campaign.

“The constraints will continue over the next four years, so balancing the books is important while maintaining efficiency in delivering the services.”
