MARCH based Community Reuse & Recycling Network held its first Community RePaint Open Day on Saturday.

A SCHEME which makes use of unwanted paint by giving it to charities and people in need hostsed an open day with Don the Dulux dog. Friends and helpers with Don the Dulux dog.

RePaint in Thorby Avenue collects unwanted paint from household waste and recycling centres around the county then sort it to ensure quality and colour and provides it to people on low incomes and benefits as well as community groups and charities at just £1 per litre.

Don the Dulux Dog made a special guest appearance on the day and Councillor Jan French, the Mayor of March officially opened the warehouse.

Fenland District Council’s Street Pride groups have used the scheme to spruce up two buildings in the district by covering up unsightly graffiti.

Volunteers in Gorefield used the recycled paint on the village hall and their counterparts in Whittlesey joined with Community Payback workers from the probation service to carry out similar work at the Oatsheaf pub in the town.

Jeanette Milner, Street Pride’s coordinator, said: “Both buildings had become a bit of an eyesore and painting over the graffiti has made them look a whole lot better. By teaming up with other partners and using the RePaint scheme we were able to do all the work at

little cost to ourselves, so everyone has benefited.”
