Police and ambulance crews were called to the level crossing at Bannold Road, Waterbeach, shortly after 6.45am following reports that a train had struck a pedestrian.

Bannold Road was immediately closed between Cody Road and Long Drove and buses were called in to replace trains running between Ely and Cambridge.

Commuters from March who caught the Crosscountry service from Birmingham New Street to Stansted Airport were affected.

A spokesman for Network Rail said the line was reopened at about 8.45am but warned of “knock-on” delays.
