A PARTY was held for students of Cromwell Community College who took part in the Carnegie Reading event.

The celebration took place in the library with Michelle Priest, head of Year 7, Jackie Harding, library manager, Suzie Dixon, library assistant, and Louise Aldridge from Cambridgeshire Libraries.

The students take part in the event under the team name Crazy Cromwellions.

It was the second year that the Chatteris school took part in the initiative, which celebrates outstanding children’s literature.

Mrs Harding said: “Each student and staff member had to read three books and review each one. This event is national one where many schools in the country also take part.”

The winner of the Carnegie book award this year was Maggot Moon by Sally Gardner. Cromwell student Oliver Tilbrook gave the book a 10 out of 10 rating and described it as “difficult to put down”.

He said: “You can’t tell what will happen next. There was a different ending to what I expected.”

One development is John F Kennedy Court. There is black mould in some of the flats and Roddons do not want to know but it is all right for a young lady and her children to pay Roddons £100 per week for sub standard housing.

I have read with interest and a little envy, the good news about the huge expansion plans for Wisbech and the creation of a ‘development corporation’ for the town.
