A list of nearly 130 Fenland residents who may have been targeted by unscrupulous scammers has been passed to Cambridgeshire County Council Trading Standards Officers as part of a national crackdown.

The National Trading Standards scams team uses intelligence to identify potential serial victims of mass marketing scams and shares the details with local authorities who in turn can provide help and support.

In the next couple of weeks letters from the Council will be sent to the individuals to offer advice and support to stop them from being targeted in the future. Residents are urged to get in touch with officers, using the contact details provided, if they do receive a copy of this letter.

Elaine Matthews from Cambridgeshire County Council’s Supporting Businesses and Communities Service said: “Criminals worldwide send out letters which trick people into parting with their hard earned money.

“Every year more than three million people in the UK fall victim to scams losing hundreds and often thousands of pounds. If you receive one of our letters, please don’t ignore it – just get in touch with us, we’re here to help.”

Anyone who thinks they may be a victim of a scam can get advice from the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 08454 04 05 06. Report scams or suspected scams to Action Fraud - 0300 123 2040.
