A racer took time out from preparing for the UK championships to take his cousin to her school prom in style ... on the back of his stock car.

Jacob Downey, of Outwell, was at the wheel while his cousin Shelby Cowell and her boyfriend Connor Ward were perched on a podium at the back of his car as it made its way into Downham Market School.

Mr Downey said: “I went to my prom in a stock car but my cousin is really into horses so people expected her to arrive on a horse.

“A lot of people seemed to like it. On the night some people arrived in tractors and there were a couple of American muscle cars but nothing really out of the box until we turned up.”

Downey has high hopes for the UK championships, which take place at Skegness - he won a heat the last time he raced on the track.
