Plans for a wind turbine in the garden of a house on the outskirts of a Fenland village were refused after councillors said it would have a negative impact on the village.

The 23m tall three-blade turbine was set to be given the go ahead but during a meeting of Fenland District Council’s planning committee the idea was refused after councillors heard how it would have a negative visual impact and it was too close to a public footpath.

The scheme was for south east of Laddus House, in Laddus Drive, Friday Bridge, an area which is characterised by open agricultural land.

The plan involved erecting the turbine within an existing area of domestic land.

Coldham Wind farm sits to the south of the proposal and the nearest next home is 278 metres away. The nearest road is 284 metres away.

Two neighbours objected to the wind turbine and 12 letters were received which raised concerns about glare and flicker from the blades, noise impact, the volume of turbines already in the area and that Laddus Drove is on the flightpath to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Welney.

Other worries included there would be no benefit to local people’s energy bills and the turbine would be 61 metres from a public footpath. Guidelines state it should be 200 metres.
