Chatteris Rotary Club has teamed up with ShelterBox to fund £1,770 worth of aid around the world.

The town’s branch bought three boxes this year - costing £590 each - for ShelterBox, an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter and vital aid to people.

Club president John Barlow said: “ShelterBox has been running in partnership with rotary clubs around the country for years and, with all what’s happening around the world at the moment - Hurricane Irma, earthquakes in Mexico and fighting in India - we wanted to help in any way we can.

“ShelterBox ship them out to the countries and they don’t go through the governemnts, so the aid definitely gets to the right people.”

In 2016, ShelterBox provided shelter for 29,300 families thanks to the support of rotary clubs.

A spokesman said: “Through our dedicated ShelterBox Response Teams and our partners, we delivered a variety of essential shelter and aid items, including 9,110 ShelterKits and 4,045 ShelterBox tents, to 16 natural disasters and conflicts.”
