Car seat safety experts will be on hand in Chatteris on Saturday June 7 to pass on potentially life-saving knowledge for mums and dads.

Safety checks carried out in 2013 discovered that almost half (49%) of child safety seats in Cambridgeshire were fitted incorrectly.

Badly fitted safety seats are a contributing factor to car accidents remaining the leading cause of child fatalities in Europe.

A recent EU study into child deaths relating to car seats found that 17% of those that died were being transported in incorrectly installed car seats.

Good Egg Safety and Maxi-Cosi – the leading car seat manufacturer – are working in partnership to deliver special clinics across the country to check how and help parents fit child seats correctly.

Experts will also help clarify car seat safety legislation and explain the new i-Size regulations.

Andrew Ratcliffe, Managing Director of Maxi-Cosi UK, said: “The correct fitting of car seats is absolutely vital to the safety of your child while travelling by car.

“Having experts on hand to physically highlight any problems and demonstrate the correct methods of fitting a child seat will make things easier for parents to understand. Holding these clinics at places like retail parks is also convenient for parents and will give them peace of mind that their child is as safe as possible.”

The Chatteris child seat safety clinic on June 7 will be held at the Co-operative Food store in Bridge Street from 11am to 4pm.
