Up to 30 jobs will be lost when Irish food giant Moy Park closes its Wisbech plant for good at the end of the month- two years after switching most production to Grantham.

A company spokesman said: “Small scale production at Wisbech will be transferring to other company facilities at the end of January.

“The small number of employees affected will all be offered alternative jobs within the company.”

Two years ago local councillor Virginian Bucknor fought to stop the run down of the factory arguing that Fenland District Council had to “too little too late” to halt it.

The pressure on the firm to re-consider came after they had announced a £20million expansion at Grantham. Cllr Bucknor argued, unsuccessfully, to retain the 300 staff at Wisbech.

Fenland Council chief executive Paul Medd also got involved, attending meetings with senior directors of the company.
