THE RSPCA is appealing for information after the body of a dead dog was found in a bin bag in the New Bedford River at Sutton Gault.
The body of the liver-coloured female spaniel was first spotted on Saturday 26 January near to Bury Lane, Sutton Gault, Ely.
The cause of death is not known, but the dog was found in a bin liner and there was also a blue towel inside it.
There were no obvious signs of what caused the dog’s death – and she appeared to have been well fed and cared for.
It is not known how long the body had been in the river.
RSPCA inspector Richard Lythgoe who is investigating the incident said: “I would appeal to anyone who may recognise the description of the dog, or who may know who the owner is.
“It is suspicious that the body was dumped in the river and I would therefore like to find out more information surrounding this dog. We think she had been used to breed.
“Anyone with information is urged to call me on the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
