A Fenland artist and printmaker is holding a solo exhibition at a prestigious London gallery.

Louise Stebbing, who has run Skylark Studios in Tydd Gote for 30 years, is exhibiting her work at the Bridewell Theatre Gallery, just off Fleet Street, until August 11.

As well as winning several national prizes for her work, she has had work accepted in the Summer Exhibition at Royal Academy and is included in the new edition of Artists in Britain Since 1945 by David Buckman.

She said: “I have been mesmerised by printmaking techniques since attending Art Foundation Course at Cambridge followed by completing a degree course in Sheffield and Postgraduate Printmaking at Camberwell, London.

“I draw inspiration from my environment and try to capture the essence of a place.

“My images usually start with a sketch and I like the print to evolve as I create it - not working out too much detail in advance, but using my 30 years of experience to let the image develop in the direction it happens to take me at that particular time.

“This exhibition includes some of my latest work started by taking part in La Calacas Press Print Exchange, having always loved Posada’s work I enjoyed putting my own twist on Day of the Dead.

“Other work was inspired by a trip to Arles in France and musicians playing, trying to capture the feeling of sound in lino.”
