Wisbech Lions Club gathered with members from across East Anglia to welcome home and informally induct one of their members as their District Governor.

In a gathering at the Oasis Centre in Wisbech Kevin Rodgers was inducted. The official induction took place the previous week at an International Convention in Toronto, Canada.

Past District Governor Derek Maguire from Haverhill acted as compere who said Kevin was chosen for his “special” qualities which included his inability to select the correct gear when driving, failure to remember people’s names and inability to keep a straight face at serious times.

Chains of office were presented by their wives to Vice District Governor Chris Crick of Beccles and Nigel Folkard of Southend. Kevin’s chain was placed around his neck by his daughter Claire Storey of Wimblington.

Lions David Smart, Roger Rawson, Bill Batrick, Chris Gay and Keith Haines of Wisbech, in wigs and miniskirts presented a jaw-dropping dance of welcome.

District Governor Mr Rodgers then outlined his views for the following year and thanked all the Lions of Wisbech and their partners for such a memorable evening.

As part of his responsibilities he will be leader of 65 Lions clubs and eight Lioness clubs in East Anglia.

He will also represent all members, about 1400 individuals, at the British Council of Governors for Lions Clubs International.

Around 80 guests from Bungay, Beccles, Southend, Halesworth, Peterborough, Kings Lynn, March, Wymondham, Haverhill, Hunstanton and Thetford attended.
