A footpath is to be built over the Norwood Road, March, bridge following a campaign by county councillor Steve Count.
Cllr Count revealed the £150,000 project won backing from the cabinet which met at Shire Hall, Cambridge, this week.
“As part of a two year delivery plan Cabinet at Cambridgeshire County Council allocated the funding towards a footpath to go over the bridge,” he said.
“Anyone who has crossed that bridge knows just how dangerous it is and why this needed sorting.”
He said the funding was budgeted in the current financial year.
“Although I have campaigned hard for this since being elected when I read the cabinet papers for the meeting it was better than my most optimistic calculations,” he said.
“I want to thank all of those councillors who helped support this project, getting it into the March Town Transport Strategy.
“Additionally I would like to thank the people of March who responded to the consultation which meant we could put it near the top of the list.
“I also want to repeat the comments I made at cabinet when I especially thanked the officers who helped me pilot the route to funding. Next step for me? Get the thing built!”
“I know I may be a bit close to this because I’ve been campaigning since first elected and been delighted at every minor piece of progress, but I genuinely think this is a fantastic result.”
